What Makes Us Different?
Global Hospice and Palliative Care, Inc. provides a team of healthcare professionals, including physicians, nurses, aides (to help with bathing, ADLS, etc.), pharmacists, medical social workers, counselors, and volunteers (to help carry out the individual’s care plan).
Global Hospice and Palliative Care, Inc. provides comfort and care to patients as well as respite and emotional support to family members. Ensuring quality of life is not only for the patient. Family members and others who are caregivers are the highest priority. Bereavement support is also offered for at least a year following the death of a loved one.
What Is Hospice?
Hospice care is about living, giving hope a new direction, and maximizing the quality of life based on the individual’s choices so that the person may live life as fully as possible. The earlier the individual receives hospice care, the more opportunity there is to stabilize the medical condition and address other needs. Some individuals improve and may be discharged from hospice care. They can be later readmitted when necessary.
“We do what we do because we believe no one should face death or loss alone but should be held in love. It is an honor to journey beside so many.”
Who Is Eligible for Hospice Care?
Hospice care is for all individuals of all ages facing a life-limiting illness. Hospice care is available to all terminally ill individuals and their families, regardless of diagnosis. Some of the common diagnoses are Alzheimer’s disease, Dementia, congestive heart failure, lung disease, cancer, liver disease, and other end-stage conditions. It is the patient’s clinical status and prognosis that determines if a patient is eligible for hospice care, not the length of time on service. In some cases, patients may ultimately receive hospice care for longer than six months.
How Is Hospice Care Paid for?
Patients with terminal illnesses do not usually have to pay for hospice care. Hospice care costs are covered by Medicare (through the Medicare Hospice Benefit), Medicaid (in most states), and private insurance.
The Veterans Health Administration. Many private insurance companies also provide some coverage for hospice care. Check with your insurer to determine whether hospice care is covered and under what circumstances. Among private insurers, there are variations in qualifications and covered benefits.
“You matter because you are you, and you matter to the end of your life. We will do all we can not only to help you die peacefully, but also to live until you die.” – Dame Cicely Saunders, founder of the hospice movement (1918-2005)
